I met up last week with one of our stylist at the salon, Emily J to talk about some easy ways to put your hair up and get some relief from the heat. Before trying any of these styles, Emily suggests it is best that you curl all your hair with a 1 inch curling iron, in 2 inch vertical sections, away from your face. It should also be mentioned, that most of these styles work best on hair shoulder length or longer. A few tools you'll need to get the job done: Davines #7 hairspray, a smoothing brush, a comb for back combing, bobby pins and a styler bun. To watch the slide show, click on the first photo below, and scroll thru at your own pace.
The first demonstration is for a simple, "face framing twist". Twisting the hair is an easy alternative to a braid, but gives you a braided look. Take a section of hair and start twisting it towards the ground and move towards the back of your head. When you get as far back as you like, simply secure it with a bobby pin.
Next is the "soft side pony" look. Start by backcombing the top of your hair to give a little extra height and softness to your style. Use your brush to softly smooth out the top of your hair before pulling it back. Pull your hair back to one side and secure it in a ponytail holder. Now take a piece of the hair from your pony and simply wrap it around your pony tail holder. When it can no longer wrap around, secure it with a bobby pin and apply hairspray.
Now Emily will show us how to do a "quick side bun". You'll need a styler bun ( available for purchace at Foiled Again, or Sally Beauty), your hair in a side pony, bobby pins and hairspray. Once your hair is back combed and in a side pony, pull the pony through the styler. Secure styler with a few bobby pins. Next, loop hair around the styler and hide it, this last step should be a quick and effortless one. You don't want it to look too perfect. Lastly, spray it all in place.
Beat the heat "high pony" is the next look. With your smoothing brush, brush all your hair up high on your head and put it in a ponytail holder. Put the pony through the styler, then start to wrap pony in one direction around the styler until all your hair has been wrapped around. Secure it in a few spots with bobby pins, spray with #7 and DONE. Super easy and super cute. You could go out golfing in the afternoon and come in and still look fresh for an evening date.
